Finding inspiration can be difficult at times. I believe almost every type of writer has faced something called "writers block". Is there a cure to writer's block? It can last for an hour, a year or maybe even longer than that. This always derives from a writer's lack of inspiration.
I find that the best way to get inspired is to listen to old songs. Preferably 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s music. This music will inspire you with lyrics, chord progressions and instruments in the songs. Here are some recommendations from my own playlists!
These are just a FEW favorites
50's Artists: Frank Sinatra, Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline, The Drifters, Hank Williams and Ella Fitzgerald
60's Artists: The Mamas and Papas, The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), The Temptations, Simon and Garfunkel, and The Ronettes
70's Artists: Dan Fogelberg, Dolly Parton, The Bee Gees, Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Queen, The Commodores (Lionel Richie), ABBA, Bread, Kenny Rogers, Glen Campbell, the Carpenters and Dr Hook.
80's Artists: Journey, Bruce Springsteen, White Snake, Tesla, Guns and Roses, Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and White Line.
My Favorite era's personally are the 70's and 8o's!
