Metaphors in Music

sav77lee

Metaphors are used a lot in song lyrics. For example, Dolly Parton is a writer who uses a lot of metaphors in her writing. Her song "9 to 5" if full of metaphors.! My favorite is, "Pour myself a cup of ambition". Using metaphors is a great way to describe a feeling or emotions in a song. Over the weekend I wanted to write a song using metaphors. It's called "Crazy for Missing You".

Lyrics:

Verse 1:

You said the stars just didn't line up. What do the stars know about love?

All they ever do is fall to the ground, like pennies in a wishing well, down down down.

Chorus:

Maybe i'm crazy for missing you, but these days are hazy and fading to blue. I close my eyes and I see you, what can I do? What can I do

Verse 2;

Echoing voices, rattling chains, your memories they haunt me like ghost in my dreams. A midnight wind is whispering through a weeping willow tree, I lie awake and sometimes I swear I can hear you calling me...

Chorus:

Maybe i'm crazy for missing you, but these days are hazy and fading to blue. I close my eyes and I see you, what can I do? What can I do

I also wanted to advertise Gretsch guitars in this post. Gretsch guitars are a beautiful body style, and are perfect for whatever style of music you want to play. They were originally used to play the blues, rock and roll, and classic rock, but I have come to find that they are a beautiful sounding guitar for country, pop, folk music and indie. I have a had a baby taylor, a martin and a fender, but this Gretsch is by far the greatest guitar I have ever purchased.
